When it comes to paint, all whites are not the same! Today I am sharing the process of choosing the best white paint color for your space and some of my go-to shades.
Determine the overall style of the space
When determining the best white paint for your home, there are a few steps to take before making the decision. First, you will need to evaluate the overall style of the space. Is your style more modern or traditional? Does your home decor tend to be cool or warm? It’s important to know what colors your white will be pulling in to avoid any unwanted hues through different times of the day.
Achieving a space that feels cool or warm is achieved by a combination of paint and furnishings, not merely paint alone!
consider your lighting
As I mentioned, it’s important to consider the amount of natural light the space gets. The amount of light a space gets has an effect on the tone your walls will portray.
If you have a light-filled space, a great option is Sherwin Williams Snowbound or Sherwin Williams Extra White! I also love Benjamin Moore White Dove.
If you have a darker space with less natural light throughout the day, a great option is Sherwin Williams Alabaster or Sherwin Williams Pure White.
For a natural aesthetic, choose a warmer white. It will ensure that the space isn’t too bold or bright and will showcase the decor your home already has. For some great options, you can check out Samplize!
If you have a more colorful aesthetic, choose a cooler white. It will help draw together the blues, reds, and yellows in your home.
GET TO KNOW YOUR WHITE PAINT
One of the biggest mistakes is choosing a color and having it mixed all in one day at the paint store. I am a firm believer in testing the shades in your space. As I mentioned earlier the colors will look different depending on the amount of light and time of day.
Here are a few fool-proof ways in picking the best white paint:
Before committing put the shade to the test–saves money and achieves the results you prefer.
I recommend ordering swatches to try in the space. Keep in mind that the light will shift in your space throughout the day. Moving the swatches throughout the day and space will give you a true picture of how the color will appear.
If you’re looking for a great place to get samples, I highly recommend Samplize! You can order 9X14 peel & stick paint samples, which means no painting and no clean-up! They also offer fast shipping, so if you’re wanting to knock out that DIY project ASAP, they have your back!
